At Texas Trailblazers™, we don't just play - we show up for each other. We compete with grit, lead with integrity, and hold ourselves to a higher standard every single day. We push through challenges together, celebrate every win as a team, and take ownership of how we show up on and off the field. Our athletes lead, support, and rise together - because here, no one stands alone. We are united in purpose, grounded in faith, and grateful for every opportunity to step on the field and become stronger through it.
Families choose Texas Trailblazers™ because we focus on more than just winning - we focus on developing strong, confident athletes who grow on and off the field.
Development
At Texas Trailblazers™, development is tracked, not assumed. The numbers below come from one roster across eight weeks of our fall season. No athletes were added and none were replaced. What changed was the coaching, the training, and the standard every player is held to.
| Runs every game | 2.6 to 6.4 |
| Hits every game | 2.4 to 5.7 |
| Times on base, out of 10 trips | 4 to 6 |
| Walks we give up, each inning | 1.7 to 0.5 |
August to the end of September
Coach James on How It Happens
We chart every pitch of every game, so our staff coaches from what actually happened rather than what anyone remembers. Pitch counts and workload limits are set before each tournament and we hold to them, because these athletes are still growing. Our goal is an arm that is still healthy when she is fourteen, not gambling at age 10 to win.
Hitting, defense, and the mental game each carry a written standard. Our athletes score themselves against those standards after every practice and every game, and I never grade those cards, because they belong to the player.
Then I sit down with each family and show them exactly where their daughter moved.
James Kuykendall, Head Coach
We publish team results only. Individual statistics and player photographs stay with our families.
A Message From Coach James
I believe leadership starts with the example we set - on and off the field. As a coach, my role is to model the character, work ethic, and mindset I expect from our players every single day. Growth is at the center of everything we do, and we are committed to learning, adapting, and embracing challenges as opportunities to get better.
This game is more than physical - it's mental. We focus on building confidence, resilience, and a mindset that carries into every area of life. Above all, I believe God has brought this team together for a purpose, and we honor that in how we play, compete, and show up for one another.
Texas Trailblazers™ - Head Coach
As a seventh generation Texan and lifelong Hill Country local, I have deep roots in our community. For the past 24 years, I've taken a trailblazer's approach to business, creating, building, and leading successful ventures through vision and action. My wife, Sarah, and I have also spent more than 15 years supporting local children, families, and missions through nonprofit work. That same passion led us to build a Christ-centered school, Sunrise Christian Schoolhouse, in the heart of Dripping Springs.
That heart for investing in others led me to coaching when my daughters began playing softball at age seven. I'm committed to building confidence in every athlete, encouraging them to face challenges with an entrepreneurial mindset, and instilling strong Christian values. Family is at the center of everything I do. Sarah and I are proud parents of twin daughters and a son.
Director of Leadership Development
As a mom of two daughters in youth sports, I am passionate about helping young athletes grow into confident, resilient leaders both on and off the field. I hold PhDs in Natural Health and Holistic Nutrition and am certified in Sports Psychology, which allows me to bring a unique and intentional approach to athletic development.
I believe success in sports - and in life - starts in the mind, and I am committed to helping our players build confidence, mental toughness, and leadership skills that carry far beyond the game. In addition to my work with Texas Trailblazers™, I am the founder of the nonprofit Elephant Sisters, which supports women and families in our community during times of need.
Fundraising & Events Director
I serve as the Fundraising and Events Director for Texas Trailblazers™, where I lead efforts to support team travel, equipment, coaching, and overall player development. With strong organizational skills and deep community connections, I work to secure sponsorships and coordinate events that create meaningful opportunities for the team.
Building community and enhancing the overall team culture is something I care deeply about. As a dedicated softball parent, I'm passionate about creating a collaborative and supportive environment that brings families together and ensures players have everything they need to compete and thrive.

Private Coaching
The off-season is where athletes make their jump. These one-on-one sessions give your daughter focused instruction built around her goals, her position, and the parts of her game that need the most work, without a tournament schedule competing for her time.
Coach James combines technical instruction with encouragement, accountability, and a growth mindset approach. Sessions may cover fundamentals, game awareness, footwork, fielding, throwing mechanics, hitting, confidence, and overall player development.
Every session is filmed and broken down on video. Your daughter sees her own swing or her own release slowed down beside the correction, and the clips go straight to your phone so the work keeps going at home between sessions.
